liberal arts & sciences

St. Mary's University College believes strongly in the benefits of a traditional liberal arts education that includes the sciences. The Liberal Arts and Sciences pathway allows study for up to two years (60 credit hours) and provides the time and flexibility for students to explore a wide range of subjects in the humanities, social sciences, mathematical sciences and natural sciences while they choose a defined area of study at St. Mary’s or transfer to another post-secondary.

The Liberal Arts Core consists of four courses that form the foundation of liberal arts education at St. Mary’s. The courses are common degree requirements for all St. Mary’s Bachelor of Arts degree programs. The four courses are:

ENGL 200: Literature in English from the Middle Ages to the Present
HIST 200: History of Ideas
PHIL 351: Ethics
THEO 201: Reading Biblical Texts: Meanings in the Judeo-Christian Tradition

These courses serve to prepare our students to meet the rigour of the degree programs offered at our institution.
