MINOR PROGRAMS

To complete a minor, students must:
· be registered in a four-year degree program,
· apply in writing to complete the minor,
· complete a minimum of 18 credits in the minor,*
· complete at least nine course credits at the senior level (300+), and
· complete at least half of the course credits at St. Mary's University College.

* While students may complete up to 72 credits in a single discipline, only 24 credits may count toward a minor.

MINOR IN BIOLOGY    [back to top]

A minor in biology at St. Mary’s University College will provide a broad overview of basic biological principles in several areas of biology, including genetics, molecular biology, and ecology. In many instances, a strong emphasis is placed on the interdisciplinary nature of biology and the development of critical thinking skills.

A minor in biology is a natural complement for those pursuing degrees in many areas, including:

  • English majors whose interests lie in writings with a biological, medical, or natural history perspective;
  • Students planning on continuing their studies with an Elementary Education degree who wish to expand their breadth of knowledge.

Students will also find that a minor in biology will enhance their employment prospects in many areas, including careers in education, politics, scientific journalism, or health-related fields.

The minor in Management is an interdisciplinary program rooted in the liberal arts tradition and offering students an introduction to management studies situated within the breadth and depth of a liberal arts education.

Many corporations are seeking graduates of liberal arts programs for their ability to understand, communicate, and synthesize information clearly. The minor in Management is not intended to be a specialist degree in Management Studies, but rather to equip students with a diverse intellectual experience that will inform and enhance their studies in the field of management.
