The two-year Bachelor of Education (Elementary) degree program is designed to prepare teachers to teach at the primary and elementary levels (K-6) in Alberta schools. As a student in this program, you will belong to a thriving St. Mary's University College academic community that, in a rigorous and critical manner, supports and advances human dignity through research, teaching and service to the broader community.
While the graduates of the BEd program will be prepared to teach in a K-6 program in any school, public or private, faith-based or secular, the program is particularly focused on preparing teachers to teach in Catholic schools in Alberta and beyond.
Students entering this program will have:
-
completed a St. Mary's University College BA degree or an equivalent Bachelor's degree from another university that has an equally strong liberal arts component; and,
-
completed a comprehensive liberal arts core that includes courses in humanities, social sciences, human kinetics, natural sciences and mathematics, and mandatory courses in history, English, theology, ethics, interdisciplinary studies and computer science.
