Taiwanese Educators Visit the BEd Program
Catholic educators from Taiwan were guests of St. Mary’s University College May 7, 2012 as part of an Alberta tour. President Gerry Turcotte, Vice-President Academic and Dean Mark Charlton, and Bachelor of Education Program Director Linda Dudar joined BEd instructors, practicum supervisors and students to exchange gifts and best practices with the Taiwanese educators. After a liturgical celebration in the St. Mary’s chapel, the group was treated to a campus tour and a peek inside our historic water tower. St. Mary’s University College hopes to explore future opportunities for an international partnership with Taiwan.

First Nations, Metis and Inuit Advisory Committee Meets at St. Mary's
St. Mary's University College was pleased to host the meeting of the First Nations, Metis and Inuit (FNMI) Advisory Committee of the Calgary Regional Consortium (CRC) on March 6, 2012. The committee reviews opportunities for developing FNMI opportunities in the broader community and is exploring ways to collaborate with St. Mary's on a wide range of projects. Nine School Districts Attend Annual BEd Hiring Fair
At a January 2012 hiring fair on campus, students in our Bachelor of Education after-degree program mingled with school district representatives who said they were eager to hire them after graduation. Nine school districts attended the fair this year. more

BEd Students Attend Practicum Placements in Whitehorse
Second-year students in St. Mary’s University College’s Bachelor of Education program completed eight-week work experience placements with the Whitehorse School District in Fall 2011. Elementary Students Solve Fun Problems at Math Fair
A "farmer's field trip" to St. Mary's University College in October -- complete with straw hats, pumpkins and turkey throwing contests -- ended up being a fun way to solve math problems for students from Father James Whelihan School. The children were guests of second-year Bachelor of Education students who had prepared engaging, real-life math problems for the students to solve. Led by their instructor Dr. Bryan Szumlas, the students were honing their skills in preparation for upcoming school practicums in Calgary and Whitehorse. more
