Monthly giving is important to our students and programs. It allows us to plan ahead with confidence in knowing the funds will be there. It also allows you to budget and you will receive fewer requests for support. Monthly gifts can be made by post-dated cheques, VISA, MasterCard or American Express. GIFTS OF PUBLICLY LISTED SECURITIES
The benefits of gifting publicly listed securities are many for both the donor and St. Mary's University College. You will receive a charitable tax receipt for the fair market value of the donation. There is no tax payable on the capital gains as a result of a donation of publicly traded securities, whether the donation is made during your lifetime or by charitable bequest.
REAL ESTATE
A gift of real estate makes it possible for a donor to make an immediate gift and receive a charitable receipt for the fair market value of the property.
GIFTS IN KIND
A gift in kind is a gift of goods or services other than cash. A gift in kind may include collections, books, art, equipment, and furniture or auction items for our special events. For official tax receipt purposes, a gift in kind requires an invoice stating the value of the donated item. A receipt can be issued for the fair market value of the item; however, an official tax receipt cannot be issued for services. An appraisal will be required for items such as art and books valued over $1,000.00. The appraiser must be acting at arm's length for either the donor or St. Mary's University College.
WILLS AND CHARITABLE BEQUESTS
A charitable bequest is a special way to provide for the future of St. Mary's University College and its students. A bequest in your will may specify a sum of money, an asset, or a portion of your estate to be donated to St. Mary's. Your bequest may be used to establish a new fund or be added to an existing fund by you or your family.
LIFE INSURANCE
There are a number of ways to make a gift of life insurance, each offering different advantages to the donor and St. Mary’s University College. The most common is purchasing a new policy naming St .Mary’s University College as owner. You will receive a tax receipt for all the premiums paid after ownership has been transferred to St. Mary’s.
