students receive 117 scholarships and bursaries at awards ceremony

(October 5, 2011) -- St. Mary's University College presented 117 scholarships and bursaries to deserving students at an annual awards recognition ceremony October 5. Several donors were on hand to present the awards made possible by their generous support of our scholarship and bursary program.

James Major received the Linda Nielsen Memorial Scholarship
James Major (right), a second-year Bachelor of Arts History student, received the $5000 Linda Nielsen Memorial Scholarship, a new award this year. Linda's husband Erling was on hand to present the award.
James also received the $1000 Calgary Juventus Scholarship and the $1000 Willis & Betty O'Leary Undergraduate Degree Program Scholarship for obtaining the highest GPA in History last year.

Jasmine Siqueira receiving the St. Bonaventure Parish Entrance Scholarship
Jasmine Siqueira (right), a first-year General Studies student, received the O'Leary Family Scholarship, a new award recognizing superior scholastic standing and leadership abilities. Jasmine will receive $5000 per year of study up to a maximum of $20,000. Registrar Anna Hughes presented the award. Jasmine also received the St. Bonaventure Parish Entrance Scholarship ($1000) and an Exceptional High School Scholarship.

James Mooney
(right), a first-year Psychology student, received the Frank Buckley Entrance Scholarship, which will pay his full tuition this year. This scholarship is awarded annually to an entering student of high standing who graduated from a Catholic high school in Calgary. Registrar Anna Hughes also presented James with the $2000 Maughan Family Scholarship and an Exceptional High School Scholarship.

(right), a fourth-year English student, received a Guido and Julia Blasetti Family Bursary valued at $2000. Guy Blasetti and Laura Tysowski, children of Guido and Julia, presented the award. St. Mary's University College appreciates the steadfast support of the Blasetti family and many other donors who make our scholarship and bursary program possible.
