st. mary's university college alumnus receives life of learning award

(April 4, 2012) -- St. Mary's University College Alumnus Jonathan Stel received a Life of Learning (LOLA) Award today for achieving outstanding results in a non-credit, part-time adult education setting. The annual award was presented by Calgary Learns.

Jonathan was recognized for his accomplishments as a former student at St. Mary's and for his commitment to lifelong learning. He was nominated by his current employer, The Good Life Community Bike Shop.

Jonathan graduated from St. Mary's in June 2011 with a Certificate of Completion in the Inclusive Post-Secondary Education Program, after five years of study. In his acceptance speech, Jonathan said his time at St. Mary's was "awesome."

His nominator, Jackie Mann, described Jonathan as committed, positive and true to Good Life's vision of "helping others to push themselves and grow beyond what they and others around them knew to be possible."

Jonathan said he was honoured to accept the award. "It tells me I am doing great work and encourages me to keep learning. For me, learning will never stop," he said.

"Most important are the many incredible people I have met who have and continue to learn along with me."

Calgary Learns is a granting agency that supports foundational learning for adult Calgarians. The LOLAs are awarded annually to an adult learner and non-credit adult educators or program directors who have made extraordinary contributions to the advancement of lifelong learning in Calgary.
